Wildlife program at Library
The Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro is coming to Rappahannock Library Saturday, July 18 at 2 p.m. to present “Go Wild with Wildlife” for the Summer Reading Program. The Wildlife Center is the nation’s leading teaching and research hospital for native wildlife. The program is free arid open to the public.
Flint Hill carnival coming
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company will sponsor their annual carnival July 22-25 at the carnival grounds. Wednesday night is family night with rides at a special rate of $8 from 7 p.m. until closing with the Page County Ramblers playing country music. The famous chicken barbecue dinners will be featured from Thursday until Sunday. The grand parade will be held on Friday featuring Miss Virginia 1998 at 6:45 p.m. Saturday is the crowning of the queens and the grand prize drawings for the 1998 Ford Ranger pickup, registered black Angus heifer and Beanie Baby sets.
Beef cattle meeting set
A Beef Cattle Quality Assurance Twilight Meeting will be held Thursday, July 30 at Fauquier Livestock Exchange in Marshall from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The program, Beef Quality Assurance Exhibit will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by a sponsored beef dinner at 7:30 p.m. Please reserve your meal by calling the Rappahannock County Extension Office at 675-3619 by July 24.
Historical picnic scheduled
The annual Rappahannock Historical Society’s picnic will be held Friday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Meadow Green, the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Kiser in Slate Mills. All paid up members and their house guest and potential new members are invited. Dues may be paid at the gate. Bring your favorite dish to share - casserole platter, salad or dessert. You will need a folding table and chairs, or a blanket to spread on the ground. The Historical Society will provide coffee, iced tea, soft drinks, club soda, plastic dishes, glasses and cutlery. A social time before dinner, bring your own choice of “cheer”.
Ragged Mountain activities
The following activities are scheduled through Ragged Mountain Resource Center, Sperryville:
Friday, July 17: “Blue Ridge to the Bay”, speaker series at Rappahannock County Library. James Atkinson, Fisheries and Wildlife Biologist at Shenandoah National Park will present a program on his work with Bird and Bait Stations and topics related there to, including remote camera wildlife photography, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Rappahannock County Library on U.S. 211 near Washington.
Art camp scheduled
Children from age five to 12 are invited to attend Art Camp at the Rappahannock Recreation Center the end of July and the beginning of August. Jeanne Drevas will be teaching Clay and Sculpture from July 27-31. Laurie Marshall will be teaching Drawing and Painting Aug. 3-7. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and costs $40. House tour dates set
The annual Rappahannock House Tour and Dried Flower Sale sponsored by the Trinity Episcopal Church will be held Oct. 17 and 18.
Former employees plan reunion
All former Aileen employees and their families are invited to a reunion on Saturday, July 18 at 12 noon at the Flint Hill carnival grounds. Those attending are asked to bring a cbvered dish and a drink. For additional information call Joyce at 987-8091.
Hitt dinner scheduled
