Picnic scheduled
New members are invited to attend the Rappahannock Historical Society’s annual membership meeting and picnic on Saturday, Sept. 11 on the lawn of the Middleton Inn on Main Street in Washington. Festivities begin with a social hour at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m.
Dues ($15 singles and $20 family) may be paid at the door. Please bring a covered dish (vegetables, salad or dessert). The main dish will be provided by the Middleton Inn. For further information, call 675-1163.
Meeting planned
The first meeting of the new Blue Ridge Civil War Round Table will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Old Sperryville Bookshop in Sperryville. At the inaugural meeting on Sept. 15, the guest speaker will be Joseph W. A. Whitehorne, who will discuss the Shenandoah Valley Campaign of 1864, especially the Battle of Cedar Creek.
Anyone interested in attending the first meeting of the round table should call Jim Gannon at the book shop, 987-8444. The meeting is open to all, but space is limited so reservations are necessary. Coffee, cold drinks and dessert will be available at a fixed price of $5 per person. The * coffee and social hour will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the meeting and speaker at 7:30 p.m.
