When I called the Sheriff’s office, recently, to inquire as to
the identity of the owner of a shabby looking pick-up which had made an extremely brief visit here, that day, and was scared off by the dogs, apparently, before I could get out to see who it was, I had every reason to expect that my inquiry would be confidential. I asked, also, about an unfamiliar van, similar in its multi-colored paint job to the pickup, which has come by here several times.
Since I have no argument with the owner of either vehicle, least of all that of the van, who, to my knowledge, has done nothing more than to drive along a public road, I think it was totally inappropriate of the Sheriff’s office to have released this information, as if I had reported a crime, to the Rappahannock News.
Furthermore, the story is all wrong. Had it not been for the brief appearance in my driveway of the pick-up, I would not have made the call, which, by the way, was not on the emergency 911 line. The dogs had nothing to do with scaring the
