Meeting scheduled
The Rappahannock County Elementary School PTO will be hosting a pot luck dinner followed by an introductory meeting on Friday, Sept. 10 at the Rappahannock Recreation Center. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and the meeting will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Interested parents and teachers are invited to attend. Please bring a side dish and drink of your choice. Hardie Newton, a nationally recognized garden design specialist who lives in Madison County will discuss and demonstrate her work in a program at the Old Sperryville Bookshop on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. Her talk, entitled, “The Creative Hand,” is free and open to the public. The speaker is the author of “Hardie Newton’s Celebration of Flowers, a book on bringing the beauty of floral design to home and garden. She is a Virginia Master Gardener and a frequent speaker before garden clubs across the country. Ms. Newton has done design work for the National Geographic Society, Arlie House and Montpelier, among many other public and private clients. She learned bonsai techniques in Hawaii, studied in England, trained at the American Horticultural Society’s River Farm, and installed plantscaping into the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
