and can be destructive to bird life. The feet of most perching birds — like a Cardinal — are very strong and the grip is tight. If a bird finds a strong support to which it can cling, winds may pull and tug with no ill effect, as long as the bird can hang on to the perch.
Birds have been tested by storms since they evolved from reptiles millions of years ago. If they couldn’t ride out the storm, they didn’t survive as a species to be around today.
Hail storms can be much more destructive to birds than hurricanes. That is another story, however.
