Merrill Strange designed the courses for all levels of cyclists and arranged each with refreshment stops. The 12-mile course is the least strenuous. For more energetic bikers there are 33- and 60-mile rides.
For those bikers who can also ride on gravel, 20- and 30-mile courses are available. “But you can go your own pace,” Ms. Strange adds.
Bike helmets are required on all the rides. An adult must accompany riders under the age of 13 years.
Each of the five courses will start and finish at the parking lot of Trinity Episcopal Church. The committee will provide water and fruit at two rest stops and the finish.
To encourage participation, the race committee will draw winners for dinner for two donated by The Inn and Four and Twenty Restaurant and for a $100 gift certificate donated by Bikes USA.
Last year, Hildy Ibegen’s friend from the city won dinner for two at The Inn. “I made him take me,” she says.
Last year, 250 Rappahannock RoughRiders and many generous sponsors, raised more than $10,000 for the Fauquier Free Clinic. The race proceeds translated into $51,000 for medicine for the clinic’s patients.
The clinic is a volunteer organization, which provides quality primary health care and dental services to individuals and families living in Rappahannock and Fauquier counties.
