gram teaches children about environmental science focusing on gardening and plant growth. Mr. McCabe, Mr. Andrews and Ms. Starnes are all Master Gardeners who love this subject and enjoy working with children.
• RCES is happy to welcome Head Custodian Mr. David Alther back to RCES. His friendly demeanor and generous heart have been missed by everyone on staff.'
• The faculty at RCES regrets that Mrs. Shannon Swain has resigned her job as Library and Computer Lab Aide. She loved reading to children and had a style that was entertaining for adults who might be listening as well as students. She loves books and reading which made her a natural in that position. \Ve wish her well in her new job and look forward to her continued involvement in PTO.
• Mrs. Lynne Fourni6r, RCPS Band Director, is proud to announce that many Band students excelled in the Solo Competition on Saturday, April 15. Students performing solo or in ensembles could receive ratings of from 1 to 5 (one being the best) for their performances. Many of our students received ones and twos. We will publish the complete list of results as soon as we receive them.
• This year Mrs. Gubler has enrolled a group of 1012th graders in the Virginia Mathematics League competition. This competition consists of six problem solving contests throughout the school year. The students have been competing during the resource block. The last contest was on April 14. Our first place winner was Matthew Ralston. There was a three way tie for second place. Those winners were: Nathan Clark, Ian Blubaugh and Elliot Nichols.
• Fifth grade students enjoyed a field trip to Montpelier, the home of James Madison, on Friday, April 28. James Madison, as you know, was one of our country’s most influential “Founding Fathers”. Questions? Ask any RCES fifth grader to fill you in!
• RCES kindergartners visited the discovery Museum in Winchester as well, for those of you who are not familiar 3vith this facility, it is located in Old Town and has a variety of wonderful activities and exhibits for children of all ages. It is well worth the time for a visit.
