the amount of money the directors can raise. Honor students at Rappahannock County High School have been named. Janice Grimes achieved academic excellence which places her as valedictorian of the 70 member class. Mollie Dennis is salutatorian with Beverly Atkins and Kathy Dwyer in third and fourth places, respectively. Commencement is set for June 5 at the school. Rappahannock County Sheriff s Deputy Ronnie Hawkins handled a breaking and entering and grand larceny case a week or so ago, just like any other. He made an investigation, took fingerprints and maintained a "stake-out" near the house for several hours at night. But Hawkins won't be bringing charges or making arrests; the thief was a bear.

The residents of the Town of Washington voted in record numbers Tuesday as 113 of the 120 registered cast their ballots for the next Town Council. Treasurer Brad Fisher, who was unopposed in his bid for a sixth term, was the top vote-getter overall, receiving 95 of the 113 ballots cast. About 80 riders from three states participated in a charity poker run from Winchester to Sperryville last Saturday. The ride was sponsored by American Bikers Advocating Training and Education, with some of the money raised going to a Rappahannock family. Franzen Brothers Circus will be coming to Washington Fire Department grounds on May 15. Elephants, tigers, jugglers, aerialist, tumblers and clowns will be on hand. In a photo page which featured the 12th Fodderstack Classic: First Overall, Clint Kiser looks like he had little trouble with the heat as he crosses the finish line in a time of 34:48.
