Award winning author John N. Maclean will present a talk and slide show on his book, “Fire on the Mountain: The True Story of the South Canyon Fire,” at the Old Sperry ville Bookshop on Friday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m.
The book was selected as winner of the Mountains and Plains Booksellers’ Association award for the best adult non fiction book of 1999. It tells the story of a devastating 1994 fire on Storm King Mountain in Colorado that killed 14 firefighters.
Maclean’s slides include some never published of the fire as it chased the doomed firefighters. The author, who spent 30 years as a newspaper journalist with The Chicago Tribune, spent five years
