RAAC will present “Being John Malkovich” next Friday, May 12 at 8 p.m. at The Theatre on Gay Street.
“Being John Malkovich”is ingenious, different, beautiful. Ty directed and acted, and also ’ very, very funny. The story is a ' surreal but is never slapstick. ' Laughs come when they should.
The idea of the 7 1/2 th floor (no 7th or 8th) makes the " ceilings necessarily low; ’ ‘(“saves overhead”) is a stroke of genius. The plot is zany and too complicated to tell here, but it involves a puppeteer; John Malkovich; Sexuality, fidelity, romance, secrecy, etc., etc. Academy awards: Director, Screenplay, Supporting Actor.
Starring Malkovich as himself, Catherine Keener as Maxine, (both nominated by NY critics as supporting actors), John Cusack (the puppeteer), Cameron Diaz and Orson Bean. Directed by Spike Jonze and Lance Acord. Rated ' “R”, for language and sexuality. , Come and eiyoy. The usual snacks and discussion after the film.
