A reader in the Harris Hollow area who is a host to a martin colony recommended theiuse of finely crushed oyster shells tai harden martin eggs and as a martin attractant, the oyster shells can be an alternative to eggshells.
You can stick a post in the ground with a flat surface attached to the top of it and put some of the eggshells on it. Just beware, once found, they will bfe mobbed, and that includes every bird in the neighborhood. If you spend some time standing near the post, some df the other wild birds will not come around. Give _it a shot. You will be amazed at what happens once the martins find this offering.
Keep in mind that over one million North Americans put up housing for Purple Martins. Unfortunately, many of these folks are unable to attract breeding martins. The advice given here will increase your chances of attracting martins.
Once martins nest at your location, they will come back every year, if you manage the site properly.
