I accuse Archimedes of improperly drawing attention to himself in the March 7 issue of the Rappahannock News. He implies that he invented pi and pi day (March 14). For those who missed his article, the value of pi being approximately 3.14159, it follows that the date 3/14 and the hour of 1:59 p.m. deserves special recognition by all mathematicians. But I invented pi. I also wrote the first geometry text 2000 years ago and it is still in use.
He probably plans to announce that he discovered the volume of an object may be determined by immersing it in a tub full of water and then measuring the volume of the spilled water. By comparing it’s weight with the weight of an equal volume of a known material, one can get the idea of it’s content. I have decided to describe my efforts to prove this theory before he preempts me.
The first step was to find a bathtub in the Rappahannock principality in which to conduct my experiment. But I discovered most people use their tubs to water livestock and stand under spraying water to bathe. However, I did finally discover a basin in a home I thought to be unoccupied at the time.
