survivors present. This year, the hope is to attract more.
If you know of survivors who did not participate last year but might like to participate this year, please call Carolyn Leake, the Survivor’s Walk Chairperson at 635-2073. The survivors make the first lap in the walk.
The teams continue the walk throughout the night. The dinner picnic follows the survivors’ walk and then the music begins.
Around 9 p.m., there will be the Luminaria Ceremony followed by the DJ and plenty of music. At midnight, there will be a Midnight Madness Pizza Party. A wake up call will occur at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning and breakfast will follow. The last lap will occur between 7:30 and 8 a.m.
Closing ceremonies will begin at 8 a.m. The closing ceremonies will recognize those teams that made their $1,000 goals as well as all the teams that participated. Last year more than 20 teams met their goals. About 40 teams participated and all team contributions were gratefully accepted.
The Atkins children passed out the team captain’s handbook and forms prepared by the Atkins family. TTie books contained a description of the event, a calendar, instructions and suggestions for preparing for the event. Additional copies of these materials are available for anyone unable to attend the meeting but interested in participating in the Relay. Refreshments were served.
