Share the Fun Talent Show set

The 4-H Share The Fun Talent Show will be held Friday, March 24 at the Rappahannock County High School. Anyone interested in performing can pick up information at the Rappahannock County Elementary or High Schools or the Extension Office. For further information, call the Extension Office at 675-3619.

This weekend at Blue Moon

Singer/songwriter Amy Silver will appear at the Blue Moon Cafe in Sperryville on Friday, March 16 at 9 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge and reservations are suggested. Call 987-3162 for more information.

“Wisher” will perform at Blue Moon on Saturday, March 17. A style reminiscent of the early 70’s with a twist of the new millennium, Wisher delivers a swirling power pop test to every place they visit. Their new CD “View of the Valley” will be officially released in 2001. The Saturday evening performance is free.

PTO activities planned

On Friday, March 16, the monthly PTO dinner/meeting will be held at RCHS with pot luck dinner at 5:30 and the meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. Also on March 16 the International Baccalaureate (IB) Community meeting will be held at RCHS Auditorium, from 7 to 8 p.m. Guests from Clarke County High School will talk about their program.

Queen contestants sought

The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department is currently seeking queen contestants for their annual carnival to be held June 1316. Interested girls should call Charlotte Tummeyer at 635-8278.

Cancer forum planned

The Rappahannock Chapter of the American Cancer Society will sponsor a cancer forum on March 29 at 7 p.m. at the Washington Baptist Church. Dr. Werner Krebser will speak on the cause, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. All are invited.

Emergency Committee to meet

The Rappahannock County Local Emergency Planning Committee will meet Friday, March 23 at 10 a.m. at the Rappahannock Courthouse. This meeting takes the place of that announced for Feb. 23 which was canceled.

All are reminded that information on emergency planning, material safety data sheets and the County Emergency Operations Plan are available at the Office of Emergency Management in the Magistrate’s Office, telephone 675-2315 or 675-3483. All interested citizens are invited to attend.

Flint Hill sets carnival dates

The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company’s annual fireman’s carnival has a new date and also new rides for this year. The dates are June 13-16 and Virginia Premier Events will provide the rides.

The grand parade will be held Friday, June 15 with grand prize drawings on Saturday, June 16. This year’s prizes are a 2001 Chevy S-10 pickup and a registered Black Angus heifer.' Anyone interested in helping with the carnival may call the firehouse at 675-3286.

Beauty pageant planned <

Miss Shenandoah Valley Beauty Pageant will be held March 24 in Luray. The pageant is to benefit the Stariite Majorette and Drum Corps sponsored by the Luray Moose Lodge. For information or an entry form, call Sandy Bridges at 743-3854.

Tuesday, March 20: Vernal Equinox Sunrise Hike-Run of Mary’s Rock, meet at Panorama parking lot off US 211 at Thornton Gap at 5:30 a.m. and hike up Mary’s Rock Trail for sunrise, then run or jog down via same trail or Appalachian TralMeadow Springs Trail-Skyline Drive loop back to Panorama.
