For 55 years plus we have had military in Japan protecting them (as well as in surrounding areas). Who pays? We do, the American people!
I do not hold any of the Japanese families or their loved ones responsible for the attack on Pearl Harbor. They had nothing to do with what happened then, they were not even around.
I was on a ship in Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Transferred to a submarine later and then to a troop transport for the invasion of Okinawa and Iwo Jima.
The injured was brought aboard our ship for treatment. Many of them died. I saw a great number of Marines, soldiers and sailors wrapped in canvas, laid on a slant board, with an American flag draped above, and were gently released into their watery grave.
I was also on one of the Troop Transports that carried occupation troops into Tokyo Bay for the signing of the Peace Treaty on Sept. 2, 1945.
I cannot forget!
I hope our country has leaned something from WWII! However, I wonder after the Korean War? Vietnam, Desert Storm, and all the other conflicts that we have gotten involved in. We still do not know how to get out!
We do not always give our military the equipment that they need when they go into places where they are at great risk themselves.
