“Let’s do it!” said Lois Manookian, who was sitting in the crowd that night. Thus were the seeds sown of the Starfish Mentoring Program, now in its fourth year in the county.
A small committee formed, consisting of Tole and Manookian, Margaret and Sid Gottlieb, Linda Dietel, Jan Makela, Ellen Neill-Dore, Bob and Virginia Scott, and Mary O’Meara, which laid the groundwork for the program we have today. Out of that committee emerged the executive committee, Tole, Manookian, Neill-Dore, Margaret Gottlieb, O’Meara and later, Susan Jones, who have been designing and implementing a program which they hope will continue for many years.
In the process a key ingredient has been the logistical and financial support of Headwaters, who recently committed to ongoing support for Starfish which enabled the hiring of Ellen Neill-Dore as Program Coordinator.
