father, Randall, and his four brothers grew up in Rappahannock County, raising cattle and sheep. After graduating from Virginia Tech, Randall became an extension agent in Clarke, Madison and Orange Counties. He is currently a senior marketing consultant for the Virginia Department of Agriculture.
Katie’s mother, Toni, was raised in Carroll County, Md., and participated j in FFA Judging.
Katie followed her two older brothers, Scott, 22 and Justin, 20, into the show ring. Instead of family vacations in the sun and surf, the Updikes would show at various breeder and livestock shows in the country. ‘
In addition to the C-M-R Farm Fair, they have participated in the Virginia Breeders Show, the State Fair, the Virginia Expo, the Glenwood Show in Leesburg, and the Atlantic nationals and the Eastern Regional Show.
