Seventy-three years ago, this August, marks the passing of Emily Burke Dwyer. This lady was my maternal great-grandmother.
She was just 33 years old, mother of five children all deceased now but one, my grandmother, Lillie Pullen. Lillie was only nine years old when her mama passed away. Little Louise was a nursing infant then, while Edward passed at only 21 days old from pneumonia.
Great-grandmother was buried at the Bolen Cemetery near Pig Nut Mountain, now within Shenandoah National Park. Great-grandfather, Boot Dwyer, died many years later in 1955 and was laid to rest in Washington Masonic cemetery.
