The wind carried the odor over our farm. We could not get away from the smell as the inside of my house reeked with the it. Within the next few days, I became terribly ill. I was incapacitated, experiencing cold sweats and nausea. The headaches were worse. I had a persistent cough with stomach pain. It was the worst “flu-like” illness that I had ever experienced.
After receiving medical treatment, I thankfully got some relief until Christmas when I was awakened by what felt like being choked. I had trouble breathing. That winter, I had constant cold or flu symptoms. I lost weight. I developed respiratory problems. And the odor outside was always there even in the cold weather.
As I had to continue with my livestock chores, I was outside daily. This routine, I am sure, was causing my many health problems because of exposure to the air and possibly to the water which contained pollutants
