The noted New York jazz pianist Bill Charlap will travel to Rappahannock County to give a concert at the Theatre at Washington, on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m. This will be the third January in a row that Charlap has appeared at the Theatre, and this year the concert will open the new season at the Theatre.
In this solo piano concert, Charlap will be playing jazz classics and American popular songs. Each year, his already fine reputation grows as reviews of his CDs and concerts appear in the national and overseas press.
Of his playing on the recent CD, “Written in the Stars”, The Washington Post wrote “Bill Charlap is a master of jazz tninimalism. The New York pianist plays quietly, with a sort of romantic intimacy, and he leaves, lots of breathing room between his phrases. But the note clusters he does play are so perfectly shaped, articulated with such a pure bell-like tone, that he distills the melodic and emotional essence of every standard he tackles.”
