Irish Rebels, Confederate Tigers, by James P. Gannon. (hardcover, $29.95). Little more needs be said about this book, which was written by the owner of the Old Sperryville Bookshop, who has a certain interest in promoting it. For the record, it is a history of a Louisiana regiment mostly composed of Irish immigrants who fought in Gen. Robert E. Lee’s Confederate Army in Virginia. This is the third year it has been on the bookshop best seller list, which either says something about its quality or the relentlessness of the author’s promotion efforts-take your pick.
