that Mrs. Paul (“Bunny") Mellon is quietly selling about half of the some 4.000 acres of Virginia countryside that she and her late husband. Paul, assembled over the past half century in northern Fauquier County has stirred warm memories and new recognition of these two remarkable people.
With a passion for foxhunting and thoroughbred racing, Paul Mellon had, over his extraordinary lifetime, bought farm after farm contiguous to their Upperville countryside home at Oak Spring Farm and kept it all open to be ridden over by the traditional hard riding hunting sport.
And to their further credit they placed most of it in open space easements for perpetual protection frqm development by any future owner into anything generally less than 200-acre or so parcels.
