Reviewing a series of performances in London last year, Britain’s newspaper The Guardian was full of praise for “the New Yorker (who) brings a casual and reticent charm and a compelling fragile fluency” and noted that he “exhibited the mercurial mobility and sparkle that have made him so much in demand.”
Charlap’s fans are looking forward to his next CD, “Stardust,” a tribute to Hoagy Carmichael. It is to be released on the BlueiNote Label in April, and features hfs-lrio with special guests Tony Bennett, Shirley Horne, Jim Hall and Frank Wess. Meanwhile, however, everyone is invited to hear Bill Charlap’s live, solo performance at the Theatre at Washington, on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m.
