This is a delightful collection of essays about life in Rappahannock County, ranging over topics from country stores and cemeteries to merkle hunting and rural mailboxes. Its author is the resident sage of Woodville, former presidential candidate and U.S. Senator from Minnesota, one of the best storytellers around.
7. The Confederate Cookbook: Family Favorites from the Sons of Confederate Veterans (hardcover, $25.) If you want some down-home Southern cookin', laced with a little history about ancestors who fought for the Confederate cause, this is the cookbook for you.
