Depending on which grill you use there are some safety tips to remember to ensure your cookout is free of accidents and as much fun for the cook as it is for the guests.

When cooking with charcoal remember an average fire uses three to four pounds of charcoal. The charcoal is ready for cooking when about 80 percent of the coals appear to have a gray coating of ashes. At night, these coals appear glowing red. To lower the heat, simply raise the grid or spread the coals around the bottom of the grill. To intensify the heat, simply lower the grid or move the coals closer together towards the center of the grill bottom.

When cooking on a gas grill, check for adequate fuel prior to starting. To see how much propane is left in your cylinder, run a wet finger down the side. The wet streak will evaporate faster over the empty part of the cylinder. Always open the grill hood before lighting, and it’s best to pre-heat the grill for 15-20 minutes before using. Adjust
