The remarkable life of Eileen Mitchell Day ended in the early morning hours of Feb. 24 at her home near Sperryville, surrounded by family.
Her love of Rappahannock County melded with her career as a realtor here, so much so she walked virtually every piece of property in Rappahannock County.
“There are many wonderful places in Rappahannock County,” she would say. “I can’t buy them all so the next best thing is helping the right people find them.”
Many Rappahannock residents who are reading this story are sitting in homes that Eileen Day found for them and were it not for her, they wouldn’t be here today.
One of them is Henry Eastwood who is living on a farm on Long Mountain Road that Eileen Day found for him 30 years ago. It wasn’t much of a farmhouse then, he recalls, but Eileen Day’s exuberance for the land and the county won him over.
‘'We are still here enjoying a life with two great children. Without your contribution,” he wrote in a tribute to her, “there is no doubt in my mind this would not be the case.”
