Photojoumalists Esther and Franklin Schmidt have lounged in singer Ibny Bennett’s living room, admired the interior of famed sculptor Frederick Hart’s Huntly studio and dined in the New York City loft apartment of actor Michael Imperioli, who plays Christopher Moltisanti on HBO’s award-winning series, “The Sopranos.”
The results of the Imperioli photo shoot grace the cover of Architectural Digest’s March issue, which the Woodville couple said was a thrill to produce.
“Michael (Imperioli) is 100 percent committed to his art. He’s very professional and knew just what to do and how to act while we worked on his portrait,” said Franklin Schmidt. The Schmidts diligently worked for four or five hours arranging the perfect setting for the cover photograph.
The actor himself helped carry the Schmidts’ lighting equipment to his third floor home and, with the help of his 4-year-old son, cooked them dinner right in his kitchen.
“Michael was very warm and very much a family man,” said Esther Schmidt. “And his wife Victoria is very enthusiastic, bright, and gracious.”
While all of the Schmidts’ work is not as exciting as spending time with the Imperiolis, it is always creative, they said.
They have accompanied a salty Rhode Island lobster man hauling his nets, hung out in smoky clubs with St. Louis jazz musicians and photographed historic plantations in the Louisiana bayou.
