The Schmidts, self described perfectionists, aim to make every photograph portfolio quality.
“It often isn’t that way but that’s our goal for each shoot,” said Mr. Schmidt.
“We believe that if you don’t honestly grow and learn and change, you may as well be sitting in a cubicle or on an assembly line doing the same work day in and day out. If we can’t find a new passion, a new way of doing things or a new approach, I don’t think we’d be staying in this field.”
The Schmidts love the variety of their work and credit much of their success to their flexibility and their respect for the privacy of people’s homes.
“There’s an intimacy that develops. Nothing is more personal to anybody than their home. We like to be subjective and really become a part of it,” said Mrs. Schmidt.
They said they feel very lucky to be making a living working together and doing what they love, whether it’s photographing antique collections in national museums or capturing the rural beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains right here at home.
“That people can take minutes out of their lives and enjoy the results of our effort is just incredibly rewarding,” said Mr. Schmidt.
