After getting a new coach this season the Rappahannock Varsity Cheerleaders headed off to Brentsville High School for the Bull Run District Championships last weekend.
The squad had a huge fan base at the event; only the Strasburg Rams fans rivaled them. The squad was on a mission —last year’s competition had been marred by an illegal stunt and cost them the second place finish.
A highlight of the competition was when Coach Bonnie Pullin of the Rappahannock County Panthers was named Bull Run District Coach of the Year. She was shocked and all of the fans and cheerleaders jumped for joy.
They also announced the All-District teams. We had three girls named to second team — they are Jessica Ehrhart, Christina Howard and Melanie Tbrrance. First team was Krystal Smoot and Mike Weise.
The Panthers were the first of the four squads to compete. The other squads were George Mason, Brentsville and Strasburg. Clarke, Manassas Park and Madison choose not to come.
