Services jor Lent begin

The Washington Baptist Church will host ecumenical services for Lent beginning on Wednesday, March 12 and continuing each Wednesday through April 9. Nearby Catholic, Episcopal, Baptist and Methodist churches are participating. A pot-luck dinner at 6:15 p.m. begins each gathering, followed by a one hour Lenten service which begins at 7 p.m. Nursery care is available. The public is invited.

Democrats gather March 4

The Rappahannock County Democratic Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock Library. The meeting is open to all. For more information call Meredith Gorfein at 675-3515.

4-H Talent Show March 23

The 4-H Share the Fun Talent show will be held Sunday, March 23 at 2 p.m. at the Rappahannock County High School. Tryouts are March 11 at 3:30 p.m. Persons interested in performing may pick up information at the high school, elementary school or the extension office. Contact is Evelyn Oyster at 937-2128.

Hospice trains volunteers

The spring training class for new Hospice of the Rapidan volunteers begins the week of March 17. Hospice, which provides care and support for terminally ill patients and their families, is looking for volunteers from Rappahannock County. It will accommodate volunteers’ schedules as much as possible. Call coordinator Ruth Padgett 825-4840.

Black history production

The Gospel Chorus of Macedonia Baptist Church in Flint Hill will host a production entitled, “Never Give Up" on Saturday, March 1 at 5 p.m. The play was written by Rev. Lemuel Montgomery, pastor of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Amissville. He will direct the production of drama and song, which has a 30 member cast. Refreshments will be served.

My Fair Lady ’ auditions

Fauquier Community Theatre will hold auditions for its production of “My Fair Lady” on Saturday, March 1 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, March 2 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Warrenton Presbyterian Church, 91 Main Street. Johns ’ lecture to be Feb. 28

Photojournalist Chris Johns’ lecture and slide show on Southern Africa has been rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 28 at the auditorium of the Rappahannock County High School. The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. with refreshments and viewing of artifacts followed by the lecture at 8 p.m. by Mr. Johns, who is best-known for the wildlife photography of his articles in National Geographic magazine.

Vocal group to perform

The local Community Concert Association is sponsoring a performance by “Cantus,” a renown 10 member male vocal chamber ensemble on Wednesday, March 5 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium of Culpeper County High School. These men trained at the famed St. Olaf College in Minnesota and will be heard in classical songs, some sea chanteys and spirituals. Fee is $20 for adults; $5 for (K-12) students.
