Having known Rappahannock because her father lived here, it was an easy decision to move here. She’s been in Rappahannock ever since, 30 years and growing.
“I love making homes, niches for me and whatever spirits wish to inhabit them,” she writes on her website, www.jeannedrevas.com. “I was bom to make hobbit houses.”
Drevas cleared the land and built her own hobbit house on a ridge in Rappahannock. She wrote that as a child she would make little houses in the woods. As an adult, her life’s work has been her handmade house.
The front door of her house has a carved oak frame. The dining and coffee tables are curving wild cherry and her closet and cabinet handles are clay and honeysuckle. She also has rush ceilings, whirlpool sinks, basket lamps and bamboo walls.
