A memoir
Susan Clough Wyatt, a former landowner and weekend resident of Rappahannock County and author of “Thirty Acres More or Less: Restoring a Farm in Virginia,” provides an illuminating and often humorous memoir about her family’s adventures in the county in the mid1970s.
After purchasing the old Ausberry place, a small rundown farm near Amissville, Wyatt, her late husband David McClintock, and their young children spent weekends for several years reclaiming this preCivil War property.
They worked hard and had fun, while learning many valuable lessons in the process. The local residents and neighbors the family met are highlighted in the story.
Wyatt draws from diaries she kept from 1976-84 and from recent interviews with former neighbors.
She will sign books on June 14 at Hackley’s Store in Amissville from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at the Rappahannock Historical Society in Washington from 2-5 p.m. The 120-page paperback contains over 60 black and White photos and sells for $12.95.
Wyatt’s book is an inspiration for persons thinking of restoring an old farm or those who have fond memories of their own restoration efforts.
