McCarthy reported that the budget is approximately $1 million greater than last year, of which $800,000 is attributable to the school budget increase already approved by the board. He said that the proposed tax rate is $.70,.4^)mpared to an equalized rate'for the current tax year of $.64J) an increase in the tax rate of six cents per hundred dollars of assessed valuation.
The public hearing on the budget was attended by only three county residents.
Hampton District Supervisor Bryant Lee expressed concern that some of the members of the old county families might not be able to afford to remain here. He added that he saw no solution.
