Once Scrooge realizes he has been given a reprieve, the play crests to its climax. He orders the fattest turkey to be delivered to the Cratchits as he exclaims, “Why it’s twice the size of Tiny Tim!” Now eager to help those in need with his money, Scrooge attends the Christmas party at the house of his nephew Fred, played with charm by JL Gardner.
Assisting these effective performances, as many in the nearly full house mentioned at the end of the play, were the costumes. A mixture of period Victorian attire and a touch of the fanciful, the costumes were the creation of director Jean Elizabeth, who has a professional theatrical background which includes much costume design.
Jean Elizabeth has been tireless and endlessly resourceful in her work directing the Drama Club, as well as in her drama and speech classes at RCHS. She is the often unsung hero of the drama program at RCHS, a networker extraordinaire, who is always reaching into the community for volunteers, for props, and for support, which often arrives just in the nick of time.
Lest some RCHS drama fans worry that this will be the swan song for seniors Tyler Williams and Julia Baumgardner, who have performed so well in productions over the past three years, rest assured to the contrary.
