What the state does or doesn’t do may affect how much you pay for health care, how long you spend in the emergency room, and whether there is a nursing home bed available for you or a member of your family.
The health care challenges facing us as a society are complex, and they can’t all be fixed by the Governor and the Virginia General Assembly.
But it would be an important step in the right direction if the state began treating the providers that deliver publicly funded health care the same way they treat businesses that deliver other services to or on behalf of the Commonwealth.
This means paying health care providers based upon existing formulas that were developed to ensure that state payments are both fair and adequate.
Adequate payments to health care providers ought to be on that list, and the budget that is ultimately adopted should include meaningful progress toward correcting many years of underpayment.
While such a step would be good for Fauquier Hospital and for Warrenton Overlook Health & Rehabilitation Center, it would also be good for you.
