Possible future developments include extending the program into the summer months, expanding the program to the elementary school, involving classes such as environmental science, selling schoolmade/school-grown jams, tools and plants and incorporating student-grown food into the cafeteria.
Another idea that emerged was inviting Senior Nutrition Center residents to visit the school to garden with the students or to sit on the benches and share their wisdom.
The project is the brainchild of Janet Davis, Director of Sunnyside Institute, the research and education arm of Sunnyside Farms. The institute has made a substantial donation to support project activities, as well as contributing Davis’ tune to help coordinate the project.
