Johan Hendrik de Groot, 86, of Lincoln, formerly of Winchester, I died Friday at Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg.
A memorial service will be held March 27 at 3 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Purcellville.
Mr. de Groot was bom April 7, 1917, in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, son of the late Johan Hendrik and Wilhemina van Elsas de Groot. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Netherlands armed forces. He was a research chemist for American Society for Testing and Materials, National Bureau of Standards in Washington D.C., retiring after 25 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Coalition for Racial Unity and Valley Harpers Harmonica Group.
Surviving are his wife, Nini Koke de Groot; three sons, Johan Gerard de Groot of Lincoln, Ernst Willem de Groot of Hamilton and Paul Eduard de Groot of Park City, Utah; three daughters. Clara Katrina Bowman-Jahn of Leesburg, Johanna Elizabeth Ash of Rockwall, Texas, and Wilhelmina Hendrina Adomeit of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada; a sister, Wilhelmina Vaning de Boer of the Netherlands; Heidi de Groot Eastham & 16 other grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
