Even if there were competition, headlines and editor’s views such as this without even allowing family and friends time to grieve will ultimately lose readership. In my opinion, this is simple sensationalism which is akin to tabloids. And it makes me angry.
I agree that it was a terrible tragedy. But could it have been prevented? Nobody will ever know. Accidents like that happen even when no alcohol is involved. Alcohol “may” have been a contributing factor but does not dispel the fact that it may have happened anyway. It was just that - an accident.
Should these parents of the kids who have been charged have called to ascertain that there would be supervision? Maybe. But these kids were 17, 18 and 19 and, speaking as a
