His most likely assignment would be as a combat medic, on a Humvee ambulance or in a field hospital. He joined the guard in November 2001 shortly after the terrorist attacks and was trained at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri and received advanced medical training at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.

Mrs. Waddell said she will miss her son, but was encouraged by the faith of someone at her church who said Josh’s being in a war zone may save the life of “some other mother’s son.”

Watson is a private first class in the infantry and has served in the National Guard for five years. He joined the guard in South Carolina where ®"he took Signal Corps training and transferred to Virginia and became an infantryman.

Watson is married and works as a mechanic in civilian life. His wife of three years, Dana, said she will miss her husband, but was proud of his service.
