While the rangers began to pull in resources for a wide search, it sent experienced volunteers up the trail. About 9 p.m., one of those hardy searchers made it to the crest. And there, waiting as patiently as he could, was the little boy.
“He did just the right thing,” Jordan said, “just what we tell people. Sit down and wait for rescue. It was a joyous moment.”
Not all rescues sue as quick or easy. On Jan. 24, a cold winter night with temperatures hovering at 13 degrees, a team consisting of a dedicated Rappahannock Sheriff’s deputy, Sgt. Roger Jenkins, members of the Virginia State Police, civilian volunteers and members of the Sperryville Fire Department gave a 27-year-old Richmond man back Ids life.
