Baumgardner was more than generous in his praise for Luke and Luke was equally as complimentary in describing Baumgardner. Marilyn Merrill Bailey of Washington has declared her intentions this week to seek the office of Commissioner of the Revenue in the election this November. Deputy Commissioner Merle Scoggin has already announced her candidacy. Mrs. Bailey, 48, is a Rappahannock native, the daughter ofL. V. Merrill of Washington. She is married to Leon Bailey and they have four children, ages 10 to grown and three grandchildren.

Following some heated campaigning during the last few weeks, the townspeople of Washington elected a new mayor and treasurer Tuesday. Seventy-eight percent of the eligible voters in the town voted which was down from the 94 percent who voted in the 1990 election.
