An enthusiastic crowd of Rappahannock residents and visitors took a virtual trip around the world on April 25 at the Headwaters’ Global Spotlights International Festival on the grounds of Rappahannock County High School.
They sampled empanadas, spanikopita, eggrolls, grilled Swiss sausage, stuffed grape leaves, lamb curry, baklava, and even chocolate mousse.
They learned traditional Turkish folk dances and listened to the sounds of Africa played on traditional African instruments. And they tapped their feet and danced to the world music sounds of a band from Germany.
Students joined Abasi Johnson, founder of a nonprofit organization called, “More Than a Drum,” in his percussion performance.
A colorful group of TurkishAmerican dancers demonstrated a variety of native dances, and invited the audience to learn a few steps.
