The cafe — because of its shape, size and atmosphere it would be unseemly to call it a “cafeteria” — has seats for about 200 diners. Burdick, a registered dietitian, said that the Bistro on the Hill is designed for the traffic the hospital generates.
“The reason we’re here is because we have 900 employees, and we want to give them — and the patients and their families — a good place to eat,” she explained.
The space lends itself to gatherings.
“People meet here, especially during the off hours ” Burdick said.
The cafe is designed to suit the time constraints of its customers. “We have an area of food that you can grab and go,” Burdick said.
And some of the items — like the salad bar items and the soft ice cream — are sold by the ounce.
“The salad bar is a full meal,” Burdick stated. “We have two homemade soups every day, and one is always vegetarian.
“We wanted to provide something for everyone, from grab-and-go food to comfort food to soups, salads and meals made right in front of you,”
