Washington residents Chris Goodine and Charlie 'Ibmpkins will tell the fascinating story of photographer Loranus C. Newhall at a program May 14 at 8 p.m. sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community at the Rappahannock County Library.
■Goodine and Tbmpkins also will present examples of Newhall’s work. Goodine will tell the amazing story within the story of how he acquired a significant collection of Newhall’s photographic plates during the program which is part of RAAC’s Second Friday at the Library Series .
Loranus C. Newhall took up photography in 1888 after a long career selling insurance in his hometown of Lynn, Maws., aw well aw Boston. Lugging heavy 8 x 10 amd 5x7 glass plates via a horse-drawn cairriage around the White Mountains amd his native Mawsachusetts airea, Newhall made a number of breathtaking amd important photographs, using a View Camera with tripod.
The Newhalls were a prominent Massachusetts family amd founders of Lynn in 1629. Over the years, the town prospered amd by the mid to late 1800s many summer estates were built along Linn’s shore. It became a popular Boston resort area.
