Coravos, who was bleeding from his injuries, was transported to Fauquier Hospital by the Washington Volunteer Rescue Squad. The Warrenton police department was called in for assistance at the hospital where Coravos received stitches to his forehead. He was held in the Fauquier County jail.
Later, Coravos was transported to the Rappahannock County jail and held without bail.
The officer Coravos was charged with assaulting is Fincham.
At a court hearing Tuesday, District Court Judge Charles B. Foley ordered Coravos to a residential substance abuse treatment program at Edge Hill in Winchester for 30 days. The judge also ordered Coravos to undergo psychological evaluation there.
In the courtroom were Coravos’ mother and father from Maine as well as his brother who lives here.
Coravos has other charges pending. In January, Virginia State Police charged him with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a suspended license after the 1993 Subaru 4-door sedan he was driving went out of control on Route 231 and ended up abandoned in the opposite lane. The May 11 date for trial on these charges likely will be set later.
