The county does not know how many of the 45 or so covered employees will choose to get family coverage. It also does not know the longterm costs of its health insurance policy.

The school system’s 100 employees are under a separate program and have been receiving contributions toward family coverage for three years.

The county now pays the $394 single person coverage. Dual coverage costs $729 and a family can be covered for $1,064. If an employee with a dependent chose to be covered, the county would kick in $594 toward either dual or family coverage.

Several members noted that this means the program is spending more for members with dependents.
