Prince Nikolaus Esterhazv was an enthusiastic player of the baryton, one of the most challenging and rarely heard of the viol instruments.
For the Prince’s pleasure, Haydn wrote well over a hundred trios for baryton, viola, and cello. It is a selection of these works which forms the program for the concert on May 22.
