Carrie G. Jenkins
Formerly of Sperry ville
Carrie Gates Jenkins, 89, formerly of Sperryville, died Sept. 18 at Fauquier Hospital.
Mrs. Jenkins was bom March 26, 1915 in Rappahannock to the late Thomas Leake and Lillie Woodard Leake.
She was employed for many years as an apple packer with Rappahannock Packing House and Rappahannock Cold Storage. She enjoyed her garden and flowers, but most of all loved her family gatherings. She was also a member of Sperryville United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Jenkins is survived by three sons, Thomas E. Jenkins of Sperryville, Charles W. Jenkins and wife Roberta of Washington, and Bobby L. Jenkins and wife Linda of Sperryville and three daughters, Shirley Frye Hitt of Castleton, Margaret L. Bright of Woodville, and Nancy Y. Jenkins and husband Frank of Glen Allen.
Additional survivors include a brother, Conrad Leake of Luray, two sisters, Lois McFarland and Lillie Corbin of Sperryville, along with 40 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren, especially “Mama’s Baby” Chris Bright, and numerous other extended ' family, friends and close loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Jenkins, Sr., a son, John L. Jenkins, Jr., and a daughter, Rachel Ann Jenkins.
A funeral service was held Sept. 21 at Sperryville United Methodist Church with Rev. Merlin Shorb and Joel Cress officiating. Interment followed at Sperryville Cemetery.
