There is a cozy clutter which provides constant inspiration. The patterns on an elaborate old sewing box are one of her latest inspirations; the light and variety and color of dishes around her kitchen sink have provided her with inspiration at other times.
A garden table where many family meals must have been served provides another. An exploration of the daily moments in her life and of the day to day life of her household—with a husband, three sons, and two dogs—provides the moments that Sherwood examines with her art. The elements of structure, color and surface are also explored in her work and are responses to the life that she sees.
A luminous use of color is perhaps the most striking and pervasive quality in all of Sherwood’s work. Much of her work also focuses on those moments of domesticity and the quotidian; however, the paintings in this particular exhibition are land
