The Virginia Historic Resources Board and State Review Board has approved two Rappahannock sites for listing in the Virginia Landmarks Register.
Sunnyside Farms in Washington was one of 10 new individual properties named Sept. 8 to the Virginia Landmarks Register as well as the Laurel Mills Historic District, which was one of eight new historic districts in the state.
The Virginia Landmarks Register is the official state list of significant architectural, archaeological, and cultural resources administered by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, the state historic preservation office.
The Historic Resources Board found that Sunnyside was “significant as the location of the first commercial apple orchard in Rappahannock County.”
